We went to Centre for Christmas...it was awesome! We left on Thursday after meeting David at work for lunch. His Shop Boss Dan cooked a pig on the grill, which Dave went late at night to help him start, and it was yummy. Marlee did so good with the new environment and all the people there. We left for Alabama around noonish and spent the first night with the Sanfords, Jon and April were there for dinner. My family from New Orleans came over to visit along with my sister, brother, and dad since they had just gotten in town for the holidays.
On Christmas Eve day we went to the shooting range like last year and brought Cousins Kelly, Andrew, Lauren and Uncle Joel with us while Mom watched Marlee. But we were there less than an hour b/c some sherriffs came to shoot and we got worried that they would ask for our license, which we didn't have, so we left. We had dinner at the grandparents house on Christmas Eve and did presents with the Carpenters, then spent the night at my parents' house.
Christmas morning was so cool to experience with a child...even though she doesn't get it yet and couldn't open her presents, but she definitely got spoiled with gifts! Glad my sister was in town too! Christmas day was also Beth's b'day, so we went back to do Christmas with them and her b'day before going over to Sissy's for Christmas dinner with the Roberts/Formby's. Natalie and Marlee exchanged gifts...crazy to think Marlee will be up and running around next year.
There was many a good meals and lots of picturesque moments. The best picture moment was waking up to a WHITE CHRISTMAS...yes, it snowed several inches in Centre, Alabama on Christmas morning/day. It was magical, and I could just imagine the excitement of many children that morning!
Uncle Jon and Aunt April have been here visiting for a few days back in Nashville as well before they go to Cinci for New Years. We've watched some movies and made some good food. Glad they got to come visit since we didn't get to stay in Centre very long this year.
Now working on getting together with the Auburn girls this week...

Marlee is 4 months old AND rolled over tonight!
Marlee has been much happier during tummy time lately...we've been practicing rolling over (with a little help from me), but I've been preventing her from rolling all the way over during the day in hopes that she'd do it after Dave was home from work. We gave her 1 practice roll by tucking her arm, then put her back on her tummy and with no positioning help she rolled over! We even caught it on video!
Can't believe she is 4 months already! She is loving to sit up (supported) and stand up (supported), and it's so fun to see her interactions with toys (putting everything in her mouth) and with people...Daddy's pretty good at getting some laughs from her. Pretty soon she'll be sitting up alone and eating people food! Glad she is happy and interactive for this holiday season! Plus, she's now been sleeping 8-10 hrs straight at night...hope it keeps up! She usually isn't down for the count until 11ish, but I'll take it!
The holidays are always a busy time! Daddy babysat Friday night so that I could go out with my old work girls at the Yellow Porch. Brittnye and I shared some yummy food! Julie and Mallory came over afterward to play with Marlee. It was the funniest thing when we arrived b/c Daddy had to change her due to spit up and the footie pants he had her in were up to her armpits...they were technically the right labeled size, but it was hilarious looking! On Saturday we spent all day listening and dancing to Christmas music while baking and making handmade gifts for our family. Then Sunday we went over to Kari's new townhome to visit with her, Rebekah & Mike, and Lee, Leah & Sarah...it was so great to be around my girls! I can't believe Sarah is already 18 months...seems like yesterday she was Marlee's size! Leah keeps saying every 4 months it just keeps getting better and better! Since Bekah and Mike live here now, I hope we can all visit more.
We are eating lunch at ABEC tomorrow with Dave's coworkers before leaving town (last year we'll travel away for Christmas more than likely). Excited that the Carpenters and Uncle Joel will be up from NOLA to visit Marlee for the first time! We can only stay til Sunday, wish we had more time to spend with family, but at least we are getting to go at all. My sister is in town too! Should be getting some visits from friends and maybe some family the week after Christmas too!
Well, Dave should be back any minute from helping cook overnight for lunch tomorrow...we are gonna be tired and sorry tomorrow night, but the holiday spirit will lift us! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
These are the holiday cards I made this year online, but didn't buy & send them out snail mail. I emailed them and posted the card on Facebook for family and friends to see. Trying to do things on the cheap this year...we are barely doing any gifts unfortunately...but fortunately we are creative enough to do some homemade ones. Christmas is only a week and a half away, and in just one week Marlee will be 4 months old! She is growing so fast and doing more and more everyday! She is getting more coordinated by grabbing, holding, moving around objects. Everything is going into her mouth, and she's entertaining herself more. She is still sleeping 5-8hrs through the night and taking naps throughout the day...still usually just 30-45mins at a time. This is officially day 3 of no swaddling during the day though, just at night. It is becoming much easier to tell what she wants/needs, and she's letting us rock her to sleep most of the time when she's ready for a nap. Still not a fan of the paci and is still trying to figure out her thumb (some days she finds it and some she can't). She's had several diarrhea diapers over the last week, not all but most are...no fever yet but slept a lot on Thursday night/Friday day. She'll be going for her 4 month check up soon...more shots :( but excited to see how much she's grown! Bebe (David's mom) came this weekend, his dad was supposed to come too, but he got sick. It ended up snowing a few inches, so we just hung out at the house, Dave even couldn't get out of the neighborhood for work on Monday. It's REALLY cold outside still, snow not all melted. And with our luck it couldn't have happended at a worse time...our downstairs unit went out! Downstairs has been freezing, but Dave is working on it, if he can't fix it we'll have to call someone. We'll see! Busy weekend with friends ahead...hope the weather cooperates!

Holiday Season!
She has the "what cha gonna bring me?" look...cute! Thanks to my mom, we have our first xmas tree in Nashville. It's a small, fake one on a table with white lights and perfect size for the ornaments we have at the moment. But we will continue to collect them, especially for Marlee. We are usually gone much of Dec and don't bother with a tree, but we knew we really wanted to get one once we started having kids...hope to have a real one next year!
We've been traveling a good bit, and Marlee is doing fairly well, even though her schedule has been slightly off this week. Most nights she hasn't been down for the count until near midnight, but is still sleeping close to 6 hrs or so once asleep. She's now taking more naps per day, and until today they were mostly exactly 30mins long, but she's asleep right now for her second nap for over 1 1/2 hrs...earlier she was in bed for 2 hrs, even though she woke up a few times, she kept falling back asleep. I hope she's not getting sick. I'm worried because she's been having diarrhea too (once last night and once today, so far), but she doesn't seem to feel bad otherwise...she's not eating as much since she's sleeping more...so we'll see.
Her 4 month check up/well visit is coming soon...might push it to after the new year if we can. It's so exciting that we'll have our first Christmas as a family! She is getting so fun! Her coordination is getting better and she's getting even more in her mouth! She's so close to rolling over and loves to be assisted to sit up...gets the biggest grin on her face! Her "talking" is so cute and she's even "taking turns" to have a conversation. Now she is too big for her 0-3 month clothing and is in 3-6month size and still size 2 diapers. She'll be eating people food before you know it!
Bebe and Gramps are supposed to come this weekend, but Larry is sick, so it might just be Beth. Next week we have a playdate with Wolf and Reed. Mommy gets a dinner night with the girls, and then Sunday we are going to hang out with Bekah and Mike, Lee, Leah and Sarah at Kari's new home...excited! This is always such a busy time of year!

So much to be Thankful for...
Marlee was 3 months old for her first Thanksgiving! We woke up in Nashville for the first time on Thanksgiving Day since we've lived together. Dave was supposed to work on Friday, but the shop/office closed, so we got to head to Centre on Thursday after making breakfast and watching some of the parade on TV. My parents went to Tuscaloosa that day to be there for the Iron Bowl on Friday. So we stayed at the Sanfords the first 2 nights. Then the Sanfords hosted their family and my family for an awesome dinner...so much food! But everything went well, and I enjoyed helping Beth and April prepare the food. We ate lupper at Gaye's house on Sunday before heading back to Nashville. Beverly is 17 weeks pregnant and Natalie is now walking. Auburn ended up winning the game against Bama...28-27...WAR EAGLE! They are undefeated and play South Carolina for the SEC championship this weekend.
We are headed back to Centre this weekend again to celebrate Christmas early with Larry's side of the family at Maw Maw's. It'll be the first time they have met Marlee (except for Maw Maw). She has been exploring so much more with her hands, and still trying to find her thumb. There is a lot of grabbing at and holding onto small rings/toys. She still loves her little girl doll which we have named Polly Prissypants, and we found out that mom's cousin Sarah F was the one who got it for her. She's tolerating tummy time more and getting stronger, and her head control is awesome. Now she can entertain herself for short chunks of time looking around, at toys, her hands, and even tries to look at the tv sometimes. A growth spurt is supposed to occur between 3-4months, so she'll probably get taller, but right now she's a little chunk! Around 12lbs or so. Her eyes look like they are going to stay blue too. ;) She's also enjoying bath time more and more, splashing some and it's so cute!
We are so thankful for our little family!

But LOVE to see our 3 month old smile and grow!
Our Marlee is 3 months old today! She's such a big girl! We're working on finding the thumb, holding onto rattles, reaching for things, pushing up while laying down, and even working up to rolling over. She's still not a big fan of tummy time, but she's always trying and getting stronger. There is a lot of smiling and cooing, you can tell she recognizes us right away. I can't wait til she's rolling over and sitting up. I'm not swaddling her during the day, just at night. She slept 7 hrs straight again the other night! She's sleeping 8-10 hrs total in her bed every night, and getting a few hrs during the day in naps. She's doing great!

Oh, how I hate to hear her crying...
I'm so relieved not to have the extreme anxiety anymore regarding whether or not she is getting enough milk...that was the roughest part at the beginning. She is having plenty of diapers and growing great! So now we are looking forward to seeing her start grabbing stuff (which she's already grabbing the edge of her blankets and bibs) and rolling over (which she's still not super thrilled with tummy time, but she sure is getting strong). Her new favorite thing is for daddy to let her sit on his arm near him elbow while he holds her chest (she's basically in a standing position) while he flies her around the room...she'll let him do it for a long time...but arms get tired so she needs to get used to chilling more and not having to be walked around constantly.
She's so cute and can't believe she's about to be 3 months old! It seems like it's flying by on one hand and like we've had her forever on the other!

What a difference a month makes...
Just a month ago I felt overwhelmed and hoped everyday that I was doing the right thing as a mommy for Marlee. I was so excited about being a stay-at-home mom, but accepted tons of responsibility for all that happens with her. I am so thankful for the classes we took before birth & reading all the books/online info that I could, and I am grateful for the weekly e-newsletters from Pampers, the Bump, etc. about week to week info of our new baby girl.
She did have a weak appetite yesterday after 2 shots on Monday, had green, leafy poop, & slept for 7 hrs straight! But she got her appetite back at 4am :) and back to normal poop!
Marlee is now a more calm & mellow baby...her crying overall is very low, and it's been weeks since she just cried to the top of her lungs w/ no break & sometimes for what seemed like no reason. Before it seemed like she was always crying, on the boob, or asleep (often at the boob as well). Knowing now that this is how it is makes us more confident, along with the fact that she seems to be progressing so well. No one can prepare you for how much newborns cry...no one. But it's been a great experience & we love her more everyday!
She is now close to 12lbs...that's a gain of almost 5lbs in less than 3months! She's (we're) on an EAT, PLAY, CHANGE, SLEEP, CHANGE daily schedule (for the most part), and she's sleeping at least 4-5 hours straight at night in her own bed, then I feed her while rocking her, and she'll go back to sleep in her bed, and I will usually bring her in our bed after Dave is up for work after 6am. Before 2 months old she was in the bed with us most of the night. I'm so proud of her (us)! Love watching her grow!
BTW...she's into size 2 diapers now and officially too big for all of her newborn clothes!

Grandparents visit & gearing up for MJ's 1st wedding
Last week Bebe (Dave's mom) came to visit on Tuesday and stayed until Thursday. We went to run errands and to lunch at a cafe/antique shop on Wed. After she left on Thurs. I took Marlee to Kroger with me alone for the 1st time for grocery shopping. She did great on both her outings...slept most of the time and made it without having to take a bottle!
Then on Friday night Gama & Papa arrived for the weekend. We watched football all day Saturday, and my mom watched Marlee while my dad, Dave and I went to Pizza Perfect to order and pick up dinner. It was our 1st time to leave Marlee at the house with someone and both of us be gone. She did well. On Sunday, my mom kept Marlee again while Dave was at Pete's house jamming, and daddy and I went to the grocery store to stock back up some. She was asleep when we got back, yay!
Marlee is so social now! She sustains eye contact, giggles, smiles, coos, and observes everything! She's not protesting clothes or diaper changes like when she was new, and she likes getting baths now more too. She can attend to a few short books and loves for us to sing/talk to her. She can see herself some in the mirror and is awesome at tracking toys/objects. Love watching her learn and grow!
We head to Centre on Friday to stay with the Sanfords all weekend since my parents will be in Tuscaloosa. On Saturday we're going to David's cousin Amanda's wedding near Rome, GA. It'll be the 1st wedding she goes to...hope it goes well...at least it's in a church so there will be lots of rooms for us to go to if needed. It will be the 1st time many of that part of the family will see her. Hopefully we can visit her Great Grandma in the nursing home on Sunday before we leave town too.
The weather is back in the 70s this week, wish it were in the 60s, but at least it's not jumped to freezing cold yet! Marlee got the rest of her shots yesterday...2, 1 in each thigh, she did pretty well, and again doesn't seem adversely affected by them, yet. A lot of 1st's for Marlee recently and many more to come!

Happy Halloween...bring on Sweet November!
Marlee was a pumpkin for Halloween...she's our precious punkin everyday! I was a witch and Dave was a redneck (he would've been Garth but couldn't find the black frame glasses he planned on using). We didn't carve a pumpkin this year, but we made homemade ghosts to hang on the front porch (3, one for each of us). This is the first time we've been at home on Halloween since we've been living together, Dave's band usually has a show. They were supposed to get together together to play a benefit at the Municipal Auditorium downtown with Edgar Winter, Little River Band, Eddie Money, and Marshall Tucker Band...but the event is rescheduled for Feb. 18th. That's really the only show that Delilah Why plans on playing for a while. We only had one set of trick-or-treaters, so that was kinda disappointing, but we enjoyed the nice weather, Julie and Mallory coming over Friday night, football on Saturday and watching scary movies.
Marlee has been doing great sleeping in her bed 4-5 hours before needing to eat again! Last night she went down at 9:15 then up at 2:30am, back asleep by 3:30 then up at 6:30am, back asleep by 8:00am then up at 10am. I was able to get a little more sleep and a shower all while she slept as well. She's been taking naps in her crib too, but sometimes during the day she just wants to sleep on me (but that's ok b/c I don't have anywhere to be and so grateful to be home with her for now). Dave has been working so hard to keep his job and position at the shop (looks like that will definitely happen) and getting extra money from odds/ends and studio singing sessions as well. Him getting a good night's sleep is pretty crucial too.
Breastfeeding is going very well now. My supply seems to be up (I can still get 1-3oz pumping after nursing). It was only painful the first couple of weeks until we got the hang of it. It is a very sweet, loving bonding experience...the noises she makes are so cute! Marlee is also now more efficient at eating and getting full quickly, as long as she's not super sleepy. Dave and other family members and friends have fed her some from the bottle (which seems to be easier on weekends in some social situations), but she's not all that into it. She'll take it so she can get some food, but usually whines through it and is more likely to spit more of it up afterwards...but it has it's place (seldom). She loves the boob! ;)

Oh yeah...we just had our 3 year wedding anniversary!
We just celebrated our 3rd Anniversary on October 13th by looking into the beautiful face of one of our goals we made on our honeymoon...a child...Marlee!

We are so happy and blessed at this point in our lives! The adventure continues...
Marlee is officially starting off the night sleeping in her crib in her room now. The first night she slept almost 5 straight hours! We'll keep working at it, but she won't be able to sleep longer til she's eating solids...we get to start cereal & some solids around 4 months.
We've been getting our daily walk in to get some sun, and I'm doing some exercise tv videos too for extra exercise for me. Marlee is getting bigger & stronger everyday!

2 month check up...
Marlee did so much better on the trip to Centre this past weekend. She got lots of visitors, including her great-great Aunt Jane from Chattanooga, and cousins Larry & Blake. She had a hard time sleeping on Sunday & got super sleepy & cranky, & a little hungry before we left town. So needless to say that the ride back was eventful, plus there were storms on our way into town.
Yesterday, MJ had her 2 month check up. She's looking great...10lbs 22.25inches...so relieved that she's doing well with breastfeeding...getting enough! She got 1 oral vaccine and 1 shot (which contained 5 viruses), and we put the other 2 shots off for a few weeks to split it up. She was alert and calm most of the visit, but cried hard when she was stuck, but calmed down quickly. I don't think she's had any adverse physical effects.
Rebekah (AU friend) and her husband Mike came to visit and meet Marlee today. They just moved here from NYC due to job transfer...how cool! MJ slept most of the visit and has been really good today overall. She is getting more and more strong, cute and fun!

Sleeping better!
This week Marlee has been sleeping better (during the night and day). It's like a switch flipped when she reached 8 weeks (hopefully it's not short lived). Last night I even had to wake her up in her bassinet (after putting her down at 10:45) at 2:45am and 5:00am to nurse. Today she's already taken a nap in her swing for 1 1/2 hours. She's finally okay with us putting her down sleepy for the most part and falling asleep on her own...before now she did not like to be put down awake and would usually pop those eyes open when you put her down asleep! But I guess she is more trusting and getting more independent! I'm doing better at sleeping when she sleeps and not just watching her or listening to every sound. I try to get her to take some naps in her crib in her room, and after she hits 3 months I want to lay her down for bedtime in her room. I know she won't/can't sleep through the night until we introduce solids at 6 months, but is she'll at least continue to sleep for one 4-5 hour chunk at night...that would be fabulous!
We are heading to Centre tomorrow to visit family and some more friends will get to visit her as well. The temps are still gonna be around 80 there...I want 70 degrees everyday! Hopefully she'll sleep in the car again, adjust well, and get back on routine quickly when we return. Hopefully her shots Monday won't negatively effect her too much! I think I'm only gonna get them to give her a couple (the most important ones).
I'm really liking her diaper pail (Arm & Hammer) because we don't smell the odors and it's easy to change out. Burp cloths are a necessity, as well as good wipes, and definitely wearing bibs daily now. She's starting to sit in her Bumbo seat in her room, holding up her head some, and I can sing or read to her for a few minutes during play time. I can't wait til she's grabbing, holding, and playing more...I want to teach her so much! Still trying to get our daily walk in (with her in the sling and Nana on the leash). She usually sleeps in the sling and calms down outside anyway.
David has been great with her too! Still changes diapers, giving baths, swaddles her and holds her. He's ready for her to be ticklish (tests it daily). He's an awesome daddy!

Growing girl
Marlee is so cute! I just can't kiss her cheeks enough! She is growing everyday. The newborn outfits (which some had to bought after she was born b/c she was so small) are finally fitting snuggly and she should outgrow them soonly. We have a lot of clothes from Natalie through about 9months size. There are some very cute outfits that I can't wait for her to wear. However, she does usually wear 2 outfits a day b/c of the spit up that inevitably gets on them! She starting spitting up around 1 month and just starting drooling (very little) and making little bubbles last week. She could start teething as early as 3 months, so trying to prepare for that.
Her 2 month check up is Oct 25th, and she's supposed to get 4-5 shots that day...I haven't decided for sure whether or not I want to spread them out yet or not. I don't think any one shot causes autism or other DD, but they require so many more now and don't know enough about the combination of them.
It's a little difficult being so far away from family. They want to see and I appreciate the help and company. :) We'll see what we can do about that. Dave is still at ABEC and the band is on a break. Mallory started grad school at Vandy, Julie went into private practice, and Beth got hired on with Dickson Co.
The grandparents are Papa and Gama (my parents) and Gramps and Bebe (Dave's parents).
We went to Centre at the end of September for her first visit. It went pretty well. She slept in the car the whole way there and the whole way back! I didn't have the good bottles with me to feed her, so I think she was gassier than usual, cuz it was easier for me to pump and others to feed her for hang out purposes. She got to meet all her great-grandparents too! We're going back next weekend!

Marlee's Here!!!!

Well, she's been here since August 22nd!
To follow up were I last left off...
My mom came in town when I was 37 1/2 weeks along. We went to Sam's to stock up on everyday necessities like TP, toothpaste, some food staples, etc. We spent all day Friday cooking and freezing meals for Dave and I to heat and eat after Marlee arrived. It was quite a task, and I'm glad I didn't have to do it by myself! We actually still have one frozen dinner we made that day that we haven't eaten yet! Her room was pretty much in order, but there were a few more things we wanted to do like hang mirrors and do a belly casting to paint like a frog to hang in her room. This stuff was gonna be done on Sunday because I had plans on Saturday. I went to lunch and to get pedicures with Mallory and Julie to celebrate Mallory's b'day a day early. Starting around 7am Saturday morning I had contractions that were mild and irratic. I thought these were Braxton Hicks b/c I hadn't had a lot of those yet, and I was able to go throughout the day without any real pain. That evening we had chili dogs and ice cream (the opposite of what they tell you to eat if you are in labor) and we watched Predator. My mom also massaged my feet (they were so swollen) focusing on the big toe and ball, since we had heard that it could bring on labor from a reflexology standpoint, and I ate some fresh pineapple (which I heard could bring it on as well). Around 1:30am we realized how late it was and decided to go to bed. I had a funny feeling and told Dave and mom they better get some rest. I woke David up around 3:30am from shivering so hard I was shaking the bed and my teeth were chattering. I was freezing one minute and burning up the next. Started timing contractions on my phone. They were about 5mins (give or take) apart for over an hour. I woke Dave up again around 5:45 telling him I thought today was the day and we should prepare to go to the hospital soon. We timed contractions again and they were 5mins or less apart. So I called the doctor and my OB/GYN was not on call that weekend since it was a Sunday, Dr. Scott was on call and she was the only doctor in the practice I hadn't met yet. I told her what was going on and she told me to go to the hospital. We finally left around 7:20am, took both cars, stopped at McDonald's on the way for Dave to get a biscuit, I tried to eat more pineapple, and we got to the hospital around 8am. They admitted us, I was 2-3cm and they said we could stay. I progressed pretty quickly, the only thing I was hooked up to was an IV for fluids to stay hydrated and antibiotics since I tested positive for GBS. I was going NATURAL as planned. I could go to the bathroom and rock on the exercise ball we brought. We had a great nurse (it was her last day before transferring) and things kept moving. Everytime she checked me I was more dialated. Dave did awesome as my coach. I had to focus on his eyes through every contraction while breathing in and out, and holding his hand once they got more intense. David's parents were in Gulf Shores and started heading our way as soon as we found out we were staying. I could walk around, but if I got a contraction while using the bathroom, I would have to stand up. The standard is 1cm/hour after you reached 4cm. Not sure what time I reached 4, but I moved quickly. I started feeling strong urges to push after 12pm, close to 8cm, not time to push yet. The doc checked on me before church and after (she broke my water around lunch). Kari came by to visit on her way to pick up Belle (her dog) from her parents after church. While she was there I asked them to check my again. The nurse checked, told me to push a little, and then told me to stop stop stop pushing...it was time to call the doctor! I had to fight back the urge to push while the nurse kept her hand inside me to hold Marlee back til the doctor got there. Kari said it was all of 20mins...felt like forever. They set up a mirror for me to watch and brought the squatting bar in to try, but there was no time for the bar. Once Dr. Scott got there, I could push, but the urge strangely subsided. I pushed about 3 times, and Marlee was born at 2:05pm on Sunday, August 22nd! She was 6lbs 7oz and 19.75in long. It was awesome to have her in my arms with Dave right by our side. My mom watched it all and Kari hid behind the curtain sending texts for me. It was amazing! I did it! I only tore a little and was able to use the bathroom soonly after delivery. I had a great delivery overall. Family started arriving, but David's parents (mainly Beth) was extremely upset to have missed the birth. They got there within a few hours. My daddy, Gaye, Jon and April came too, and we were also visited by Mallory (it was her b'day) and Julie and Jade too! Mallory was so happy that Marlee was born on her b'day! We got to stay in the same room (larger, corner room) the whole time and Marlee stayed with us, except for a real bath and pediatrician check up in the nursery. She was textbook with her diapers and I was recovering nicely.
We got to leave the hospital on Tuesday the 24th. The new grandparents all came with us, but my mom was the only one who could stay, and she stayed for another week and a half. It was a huge help to have her there. It was nerve wrecking not knowing if Marlee was getting enough milk, but my mom breastfed us, so she tried to reassure me, since she was having plenty of wet diapers that was a good indication. I logged all of her feedings and diapers for the 1st 4 weeks of her life. I have gotten less stressed about worrying over her weight, she lost 10% (which is normal) but gained it back by 2 weeks, and we go at the end of this month for her 2 month check up and shots. She's still gaining weight and will soonly grow out of her newborn sized clothes. She's had lots of visitors and is getting more alert. She has been trying to hold her head up since she was born and getting stronger everyday. She has lots of feedings, but sleeping more and is learning during her alert times. Nenana (our husky) is good with her, she just wants to lick her really badly. ;) Dave has been great changing diapers, and holding and playing with her. We play music, and daddy sings and plays for her too. She definitely likes movement and to be held. She falls asleep on me a lot, but wakes up easily when laid down sometimes. I try to get her outside for a walk daily and get some sunshine. I either push the stroller or carry her in the sling (which she usually falls asleep in) and walk Nana as well. I try to put her in her crib in her room for at least one nap a day. We play and get tummy time in too. We have her bassinet right beside the bed, but she's been staying in the bed with us, so that I can rest more having to feed her throughout the night. I try to put her back in the bassinet when I can. Seems like until she's eating solid foods at 6months, she won't sleep for longer than 3 hours at a time, but I haven't been that long without feeding her so far except for a few times. I bought a double electric pump that has come in handy for keeping my supply up, pumping when she sleeps long, and having extra for others to feed her bottles. She makes the cutest noises and faces, but she grunts so much, even in her sleep. She's just a very vocal, noisy girl!
She's precious and she's ours! We are so excited and happy! Ready to see her grow!
She's 7 weeks old today!

37 weeks and it's all coming together!
I am starting to feel so ready! Beth (mother-in-law) came for a few days and helped get some more needed items, make some awesome handmade curtains, and set up Marlee's room and closet some more. It looks so cute and homey, we are so happy with it! My mom is coming later this week to finish up all the other last minute stuff for her room, cook and freeze meals, stock up on essentials, and bring the carseat/stroller set that we are borrowing. I found a deluxe pack n play in great condition and a bottle warmer today for less than $100. Dave almost has the bassinette ready, it's sanded and painted, he just has to put it back together.
Still trying to figure out what to bring Marlee home from the hospital in as well, my mom wants to find something delicate and cute, we'll be looking. All clothes up to 6 months are ready in her closet and others up to 12+ months are stored at the top of her closet. I have sent out most of the thank you notes and still need to address birth announcement envelopes. There are also a few other little crafts that I will be working on finishing this week for her room. I go back to the doctor tomorrow and only have to work one day this week. I will be trying to walk a lot more and do some other activities to get my body geared up for labor.
Since my company is officially closing, if I go back to work here in Nashville, I have a couple of options. So I will probably be updating my resume soon and keeping my mind open to different possibilities. Dave is also going through a transition with the band. They are likely taking more than just a short break, the consensus is to end the band now. The two other guys have stuff going on as well, which is pulling everyone in different directions and building their finances is a part of what they all need to focus on. Dave will get back to playing music, at least solo, as soon as he wants after Marlee is born. He has several friends that want to get together and write with him, and he continues to have some session work for singing. I'm excited to see what direction his music takes him! Times they are a'changin'!
The swelling in my legs/feet and hands/fingers has been crazy in the past week, but hopefully nothing serious, just trying to prop my feet up when I can. I have pain in my fingers like arthiritis or something, hurts to grab things, and the heels of my feet are what hurts the most at the end of the day. I think I'm having some Braxton Hicks contractions, but nothing too severe yet. I just need to get moving when I can to get her to drop and prepare my body for giving birth naturally. I did test positive for Group B strep, so once I get to the hospital in labor I will have to get an IV needle so that I can get antibiotics every 4 hours for 10min, but my doctor said I can disconnect and still move around for labor. My bags are mostly packed for the hospital and we'll install the carseat this week. I've labeled some of the cabinets in the kitchen for family/friends who come to help after the baby so they know where things are/go. I want to re-read some of the info in our books from childbirth and breastfeeding classes to refresh my memory on some things...but we are so ready and can't wait!

Almost 37 weeks...full term!
Sunday we will be 37 weeks, which is considered full term...can't believe it! Hopefully she won't come late. She is officially in the head down position...so we can attempt a natural birth! It was such a relief to hear this news.
Yesterday was my last full day of work, so now I can concentrate on finishing up things around the house and preparing my body for labor. I need to walk more and do lots of stretching everyday, because I'm not dialated at all. My fingers and feet/legs are still swollen at times...had to take my rings off my fingers because they were getting really tight. I'm wearing my engagement ring on a necklace. The doctor said my and Marlee's size seem good overall, and from this passed Tuesday's appt, I have gained 23 lbs total. So looks like I'll go over 25lbs, but hopefully not too much more.
This passed weekend was our Nashville Baby Shower at our house. It was so much fun! Jon and April came for the weekend. They were way too generous! Leah, Kari, Mallory, and Julie did an awesome job planning and running the shower. It was so cute, good food, lots of goodies, fun games, and good times with friends. Leah and Lee's daughter Sarah is getting so big and still as cute as ever. Brittnye also brought Carter (almost 1 yr old) and Bart and Wolfie brought Kalei and Reed. Nenana was so happy to have so much company. And we only have a few things left that we really need to get. Leah took a lot of the pics for the shower, can't wait to see them! My friends are so awesome and generous, and we are so excited and blessed! Dave got to smoke his pork all day, it was yummy, then the friends who stayed late all hung out on our back porch w/ us. On Sunday we went w/ Jon and April to Bart's house in Franklin to swim and eat dinner. It was a great weekend!
Dave's mom Beth is coming today, at least for one night, to help finish up some things. Then my mom is gonna come back for a couple of days next week. It's so exciting to be wrapping everything up and know that we will meet Marlee soon! Going back to the doctor on Monday...hoping for progress!

35 weeks!
Only 5 weeks left! I go to the doctor on Tuesday to check her positioning and to see if doctor thinks we'll need a c-section...fingers crossed that she'll turn down.
Last week was a crazy week after having the Centre baby shower last weekend. It was at the Rec building at the Nursing Home and it went great! It was more set up like a tea, all presents opened as they arrived and displayed on tables so that people could look at all the stuff. I was relieved not to sit there and open each present infront of everyone. I was able to mingle and hang out. The food and drinks were good. There was an advice book that people wrote in and a craft table where people got to paint/personalize bibs, burp cloths, and onesies...it was so cute! It was so good to see lots of friends and some family too! I have officially been through everything we have gotten so far and updated the registeries to reflect what we still need. People have been so generous so far...and we still have our couples' Nashville Baby Shower this weekend at our house! Kari, Leah, Mallory, and Julie have been planning it and are keeping it mostly secret from me, but I know it will be fun! Jon and April and maybe my brother are cominng up next weekend for the shower! Excited!
Dave is home this weekend (yay!), it was so nice to wake up together without the alarm today and be able to work together (without being exhausted after work) to get everything done. Almost ready to clean Marlee's carpet and put everything in her room. Right now Dave is putting down new flooring in the kitchen and laundry room! It's going to look so good. I still have some cleaning and organizing to do as well. Have made my checklist for what to pack in hospital bags (labor and stay), so still getting those prepared. Docs want me to have bags packed and carseat installed by next week...just in case! We are officially 2 weeks away from getting to the point of "you could go at anytime". Wow! My fingers are now too swollen to get my rings off and my toes look like little sausages by the end of the day w/ hard to detect ankle bones! Back pain isn't too bad, and those nasty H's that I was getting for a while have gone away for now and I can use the bathroom normally again. The most painful part of my body these days are the heels of my feet. It's getting hard to sit on the floor to work with my kids. But I still feel pretty good overall!
Transition at work has begun, so my work is starting to taper off, but I'm going to try to work til about the 20th of August. But things are taken care of so that if she comes early, my kids are taken care of, and things are left a little open if I want to come back to working but doing it privately.
So right now I am focusing on practicing my breathing/relaxation techniques (in case I get to do labor naturally), exercising, eating well, writing thank you notes, making and freezing food, getting things ready for hospital, and getting house ready for our baby girl!
Not much longer!!!!

33 weeks!
Well, less than 7 weeks left...it feels like it's flying by so fast, but I'm sure the last few weeks will be tough.
I interviewed a couple of pediatricians today and think I found one we'll like. Dr. Jon Betts at Old Harding Pediatrics. The practice comes highly recommended and so did that doctor. We make an appt when discharged from the hospital for 2-3 days afterward. Can't believe I'm gonna be taking my baby to the doctor in less than 2 months!
Mom was in town all last week to help us get stuff in order around the house. She started painting Marlee's room, went shopping with me to look at shelving/storage for her closet and room. I am so glad that she was able to come...and hopefully she will be back again before Marlee arrives to put finishing touches on everything.
Uncle Matt Matt is looking for pictures of things in nature/architecture/etc that look like the letters in Marlee's name to frame to go over her bed. The Centre baby shower/tea is this weekend! Ashley (my sis) will be in town Thursday night. I'm looking forward to the event, and hopefully will get to see lots of old friends. Ashley is coming back to Nashville with me Sunday night and flying out Tuesday. Glad we will have time to spend together before baby time. We are kinda bummed that we won't be able to go to Florida with the parents though. Dave can't get off work, and I'm just a little too far along to travel that far away.
I've made my hospital bags checklist andthe birth plan. Gonna pack my bags next week! (Many recommend to be ready ahead of time. I get to meet another doctor in the practice tomorrow and find out in 2 weeks if Marlee has moved head down...I hope she has! I am really leaning towards natural childbirth also! We have 2 more childbirth classes left. And the pediatrics office offers free newborn classes.
Dave is finishing painting the room this week, and we can move on to steam cleaning the carpet, then installing/setting up the furniture and shelving, and making the curtains for the window and closet.
So excited!!!

Almost 32 weeks
Can't believe we are already into July! Dave had the Monday after the 4th off, so we were able to go to Centre for the 4th of July weekend on Friday and stayed til Monday. We had great weather and had lots of fun hanging out with family and some friends. Saturday we were at the lake all day, grilled out, swam, rode the jet ski (I only did for a minute, so that I wouldn't hurt myself), horseshoes, and watched fireworks from the boat that night followed by shooting some of our own. It was a good day...and no sunburn. ;)
On Sunday the 4th, we did some more swimming, visited Jenni at her mom's since it was her b'day, then we celebrated Dave's b'day early with a homemade ice cream party (using kazoos to sing happy b'day), and all went to my parents' house to eat ribs and shrimp boil complete with brownie cake. We went back and finished shooting the rest of the fireworks.
My brother was in town, so we got to hang out. He showed us all about 500 of the almost 4000 pics he took in Italy will there for a mini-mester studying abroad. Dave and I also hung out with Joseph and Kelly Cox some throughout the weekend, since they live beside the Stimpson cabin.
We brought back my baby crib, a changing table that matches that my mom found, tons of baby clothes from the Gilberts, shelving for our dvds, and leftover food. I've cleaned off the furniture, cleaned the baby room, and now it's ready to paint. I plan on making curtains, and we've gotta put more shelving in her closet too. As of now each wall is gonna be a different color (my idea of green walls w/ purple curtains was shot down by the daddy). Even if we try to sale our house in the near future, we can always repaint the room to be more neutral if it doesn't sell quickly. Dave wants her room to be as colorful as possible...I think it's cute. My mom is probably coming up this week to help getting the painting started and help out getting other things set up.
We've had a breastfeeding class and 2 childbirth classes so far, 3 classes to go. We only have 8 weeks left before we get to hold Marlee in our arms!

Can't believe it's almost July
We only have 10 weeks left til we meet Marlee!!!! We are so excited, but still trying to make everything work. Dave has been so busy and hard at work for us, for ABEC, for the band, and with fellow songwriters. He works so hard at everything he does. He loves to learn and figure out how to do things for himself, especially if it saves money. His perserverance and talent amazes me...hopefully Marlee will get that from him!
It's been in the mid to high 90s for the last few weeks, but will finally dip back into the 80s with lows in the 60s. I've been trying to soak up the A/C, but have spent some time in the sun, or at least in the shade outside. Our garden is not growing as well this year as last year. Too much water early on and now too hot and dry. Hope we end up getting some good stuff eventually....I'm so looking forward to yummy garden veggies.
Looking forward to going to Centre this coming weekend for the 4th of July! Dave gets Monday off, so we get to stay a little longer than we thought. We start our every 2 week doctor's appt next week and Dave's 32nd b'day is next week too! The summer is flying by!

Father's Day & Summer
Yesterday was Father's Day! My dad was in NYC with mom visiting Ashley (sister). I would have loved to have gone with them, but didn't have the funds, plus I don't know how much fun I would be traveling like that right now (slow, frequent bathroom trips, etc.). Sounds like they had fun, can't wait to see pictures. My dad is so awesome and I love him so much for always loving and supporting me! He's all about having fun and being funny, but very smart at the same time. I LOVE MY DADDY!
Dave got back from KY around 6am Sunday morning, so we spent his last Father's Day as a "non-father" just sleeping in and lazing around. I cooked pancakes for him. Late afternoon we ran some errands and he fixed on the band van some (now the transmission is messing up). Good day all and all, and can't believe we'll have a daughter next Father's Day! David is going to be such a great dad!!!! He is sweet, loving, smart, funny, fun, understanding, hardworking, and talented in so many ways! Marlee is very lucky to have as her father, and I'm lucky to have him as my husband and best friend! I love him so much! Can't believe we will be parents in 2 1/2 months!!
Baby showers are coming up in a month or so, while we continue getting the house ready. Gonna pick out wall colors soon and update the furniture we are gonna use. I have a doctor's appointment to meet Dr. Ellington tomorrow for the first time (another doc in my clinic). I hope Dr. Rupe (my doctor) gets to be with me on Marlee's b'day. Dave can't come to anymore appointments because he's back at work. :( But at least he got to come with me up to this point! I was stressing about my lax work schedule a little for the summer (unexpectedly turned that way right before the summer) but it was great timing since Dave got his job back, still getting some odd jobs, and the band is scheduled up into August. So I guess I can enjoy the days where I don't work, since I am getting bigger and more tired again and have LOTS to take care of in the next 8 weeks. I had an eye doctor appt today and my eyes both got a little better since last time. After my baby doc appt tomorrow, I'm also going to the dentist, hope I get good news tomorrow.
I've been singing "You Are My Sunshine" to Marlee in the shower while I wash my belly. She is kicking so much now, especially when her daddy sings while playing the acoustic! He wants to start singing to her lots of songs since she can hear him now. Apparently she's approx 2 1/2 lbs and over 15 inches. We'll find out in 3 more weeks if she is starting to turn head down or not because of the point of the heart shape. (I've been talking to her about turning upside down, we'll see if she's stubborn like her daddy.) :) I'm also having some, um, gross and slightly uncomfortable side effects of from pressure that I won't go into, but overall I still feel pretty good. Did manage to hurt my back some how, so that's unfortunate, but hopefully it will get better soon. Marlee's officially been in the lake, ocean, and pool already this summer!
Bigger belly with a tan!
We're at 28 weeks and just got back from Florida with Jonathan and April. We changed our plans from Gulf Shores, AL to Mexico Beach, FL because of the oil spill in the Gulf. We were clear of oil the entire time and had perfect weather and great food that made for a great trip! Jon and April were so kind to treat us to a Babymoon to kick off our 3rd trimester.
The weekend before the beach we had a long weekend in Centre on the lake for Jon and April's Reception. We had good weather and I got a little too much sun, but it was ok by the time we made it to the beach, and I just further my tan a little there. We swam and took boat rides. Saw the huge pile of baby stuff from the Gilberts...so awesome. Hanging out on the lake, watching the sunset, and relaxing was so great! It would be nice to be able to look out over the lake anytime you like. MISS IT! Many of my Auburn friends were in Puerto Rico that weekend for Rebekah's wedding to Mike. Looks like it was a blast and heard that it was crazy, as expected.
Now that we have less than 3 months left, we are in frantic get-everything-ready mode. We have to organize what we have left after going through the baby room for the yard sale, paint the baby room, update/make furniture for baby room, put shelving in baby closet, and tile the laundry room floor. Gotta make the final color choices soon! Can't believe that Marlee will be with us when football season starts! She is kicking like crazy, especially when I get still, so that means I need to be on the move as much as possible. I'm feeling pretty good, but her movements are so much stronger now and my belly is so out there...and it's gonna get even further! We go back to the hospital to meet our other doctor next week. Our breastfeeding class is at the end of the month and our childbirth classes are every Thursday in July.
Dave started back at ABEC today, and I'm a little emotional. He is such a multi-talented guy and doesn't have to be in a mainstream job b/c he can do SO much, but we have to figure out where we are gonna be and what we want to do and we will make it happen.
Life is short, do what you enjoy doing, anything is possible!

The circle of life...
I had plans to go to Chattanooga this weekend to visit family including a very sick great uncle that had cancer, but he passed away earlier this week. So David and I went on Thursday for the visitation and spent the night with my parents at a hotel then went to the funeral Friday morning. It was very emotional, but at least he is not suffering anymore. He had prostate cancer before and they didn't get rid of all of it, and it came back in his liver and pancreas. I am most sad for Aunt Jane because she and Uncle Durwood spent so much time together. They even still slept in the same bed until he got really sick. He was 81, they had been married for 54 years, he had worked for the railroad for 44 years, and served in the Navy. The military cemetary he was laid to rest in was impressive. Even though it was very sad, it was nice to be around family from Chattanooga, New Orleans, Tuscumbia, etc. that I don't get to see often. They are excited about Marlee coming into the world in a little over 3 months!
So much to do during this last trimester. But we are getting so excited! We are so fortunate to be getting so much second hand stuff. I am now mostly registered for other things we need, and need to start planning showers. Getting ready to start decorating the baby room. Still not for sure decided on a wall color, b/c Dave still wants to do red. I'm ok with a dark red for part of it, but want to use purple, green, and other accent colors. We need a massive shelving unit in the big closet. And I have to organize all the other stuff that we're keeping that used to be in the room.
Dave got offered his old job back at ABEC, shop guy. He goes next week to talk to the owner's about specifics and sign paperwork. The higher ups have changed hands a little and they are willing to "work" with Dave's musician lifestyle, but he plans to ask off as little as possible. I'm relieved that we'll be getting more steady income to save up for when Marlee arrives, but I'm sad that Dave has to go back to a day job instead of making enough money with music alone. He'll never quit music, and hopefully it will still only keep getting better. They are recording their second album still, and I'm excited for it to come out. So many people are ready for more Delilah Why music!
I got to see Brittany this morning since she's in town for Memorial Day weekend, I met her in Huntsville for lunch and some shopping (of course I didn't buy anything, and Brit kindly paid for lunch). She got Marlee the cutest onesie and bib! Delilah Why is in St. George Island, FL til Monday for shows. I'm going to see Sex and the City 2 with Julie and Mallory tomorrow...excited! I'm so ready for our beach trip in a week and a half with Jon and April!
Temps are officially in the 80s...gonna need some pool time soonly!

3 1/2 months left!
We are almost 25 weeks! Sometimes I feel like I've been pregnant for a while and sometimes it seems like it's going so fast. We are having our yard sale this weekend! Winding down the first day and we've done pretty well, and the rain has held off! We will be at it again tomorrow and the weather is still supposed to be sunny and hot! My friend Mallory is coming to help tomorrow. Dave has been such a help yesterday (setting up) and today. They have a show in KY tonight and won't get back to early tomorrow morning, so he may sleep through the sale tomorrow. I plan on getting some baking materials this afternoon and making some baked goods to sell tomorrow too. Hope we do even better tomorrow!
I've been sleeping pretty well lately, unless Marlee starts kicking/moving a lot when I'm trying to fall asleep. :) My feet and hands have started to swell some if I stand too long. Still not getting sick anymore. I notice my belly more when I try to bend down now, whether sitting or standing. My hair seems thicker and I actually have some long nails (have bit my nails for years, so weird to see them long)....attributed to the prenatal vitamins. I have pains in my sides at times, but going well overall with symptoms. I've not been doing as well lately with exercising, but still doing my kegels and stretches.
Schools are about to be out for the summer around here. We've got Jon and April's Reception at the lake coming up, plus a trip to Gulf Shores with them. So excited to go to the beach. However, there was a significant oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, so not sure how safe the water will be. I plan to meet my friend Brittany in Huntsville next weekend when she comes to visit family. I haven't seen her since Feb!
So hopefully we will sale the rest of this stuff tomorrow, and whatever we don't sale we will donate...and then baby room time! I've registered for most of the baby stuff we will need, so now just gotta plan the showers (a Nashville one and a Centre one). Can't believe I'm about to be in my last trimester! Working really hard to stay positive lately, nothing bad is happening, just letting my worries get the best of me. I know that it's gotten over the top when my negativity rubs off on Dave because he is so happy, positive, and free-spirited. I love him so much and could not see doing anything in life without him by my side. I am so happy and excited for us! He is my Rock and Rocker, and I have to help keep it that way!

Where did my feet go?
So now when I look down I see my belly instead of my feet. I finally started getting some indigestion, but not daily, and still haven't had nose bleeds or carpal tunal (which are common around now). We are almost 24 weeks! I can still feel her move around a lot. Trying to tune into when she's awake and asleep. The average is about 14-18 hours of sleep a day, but in 20-40min increments. When she's on the move, I can even see my stomach move sometimes!
I got to spend Mother's Day with my momma! It is so weird that I should be a mother this time next year. I hope I can be as good of a mom as my mom is! My mom let me borrow her body pillow, it's called a comfort U, and it's pretty comfortable. Dave had just bought me a few new pillows to use, but now we can use them in the guest room to replace the old feather ones! My parents are coming to visit this weekend...looking forward to spending time with them in our home and around Nashville.
Due to the flooding our neighborhood yardsale got postponed until next month, so no getting rid of all our stuff this weekend. :( It was rescheduled for the first weekend in June, but we already have plans to be back in Centre. So gotta figure out if I'm gonna do my own sale and when...got so much stuff to get rid of so we can get started on the baby's room!
I am so excited for David to be a father. I think he's gonna be so great! We are so excited, just still nervous about pulling ahead financially before I will be out of work for a while. This is such an exciting time! We just want to be good parents and pass on the best from us. Us being happy and positive is very important.
Can't believe we just have a summer left before being parents forever!

Natural disasters and heart shapes
Well, last week Dave left with the band on Wed around lunch to head down to Florida for the weekend for shows. I got home from work around 1 on Friday. I spent most of the afternoon catching up with some friends on the phone and reading our newest Book Club book "Sarah's Key". It was nice weather with sunshine, so I stayed outside until I made dinner. Before I woke up Saturday morning it was thunder storming with hard rains. Now the news/weather people said that they were predicting hard storms and rains and maybe get 5 inches or so. Well, it rained all day, with maybe an hour of just light mist. Around 3:00 the power went out and stayed out til after 6. Turned the tv on, still raining, flooding in parts of Nashville was being reported. There was some crazy live footage of major interstates filling up with water and people having to evacuate their cars, portable buildings floating down the interstate, and big trucks making huge waves & making cars bop up and down as they were trying to push on through the water. I couldn't believe what was happening. Then more and more places started to flood and all attention turned towards the Cumberland River, along with many other smaller rivers around Nashville (especially on the East and West side). The rain continued on Sunday with no relief until after 5pm, and even when the rained stopped the flood waters did not. The rivers were expected to crest, 1st and 2nd Ave downtown buildings were flooding, houses, schools, restuarants, stores, offices, music venues, and the Opryland Hotel all around Nashville were flooding! Of course, most of this was being reported to me via text message and then I finally found a radio w/ batteries, b/c our power had gone out again around 12pm. Dave was supposed to get back by late Sunday night, but I was so worried that the roads would be blocked. I had sent him some pix text of some damage on the news Sat, but not convey how bad it really was to them. They were not getting any news coverage in Florida or Alabama on the way back that eluded to SEVERE problems. By dark on Sunday I was starting to panic a little. My neighbor did come over for an hour to sit and hang with me, but she was nervous b/c she hadn't heard from her parents, whose subdivision was flooding and we heard they were evacuating. We walked to our neighborhood's entrance and were relieved to see no flooding in our neighborhood or on the main road we turn onto. Still no power, night falls, and I only have AA batteries. Which work for the radio, but not for the flashlights or lanterns that I have, so I am relying on one flashlight that only charges electrically, so I light many candles and try to use it sparingly. Get word that schools are closed on Monday, and spend most of my time reading my book by candle light and alternating my meals between peanut butter sandwiches and pineapple & cheese sandwiches, I filled up some water jugs just incase the water was turned off too. I had found my car charger and charged my phone some earlier since it was dying early on on Sunday, but as I went out to charge it again later, my car would not crank! I tried not to panic, let Dave know that it was about to die and really hoping he would make it home. He called after he dropped Pete and Cullen off in East Nashville and my phone went dead in the first minute, instant panic, it was about 11 at night. I went out to my car again, still wouldn't crank, but with the key turned one click the car charger would charge my phone! So I called Dave back and talked to him until he got home....so relieved! Power still off, we went to bed soonly. Power was still off when we woke up, thank goodness it wasn't too hot outside yet. But the sun was out and looked like a pretty day; however, the radio reports sounded awful. Our neighbors found their parents and that their house was ruined, they have since moved in next door. We made it to Wal-Mart down the road for batteries, ice, some food, etc. Then Dave hooked up the power inverter to a power cord in the house and we were able to run our internet, computers, fans, and phone chargers. So we were able to get some more info about what was going on. We babysat the neighbors' 2 girls for a few hours while they went and gutted their parents' ruined house, dvd movie on computer w/ snacks and playdoh worked out well. Then the power came back on by 9, so we had a hot meal and a warm shower before bed. Some people still don't have power and much damage has been done to houses and vehicles. It is hard to get to some areas, so I haven't been able to work a full day yet. Schools are still closed and maybe for a while, even some families houses are hard to get to, but I don't think any of the families I work with got bad flooding. Some people now have nothing though. So sad. We are gonna donate some stuff, but I can't be near the water since I'm preggo. Dave leaves town again tomorrow and I'm leaving for Centre this weekend for Mother's Day. The band is playing in Gadsden on Sat night, so we'll be headed back to N'ville on Sunday.
We were also able to get to our doctor's appt in Franklin on Tuesday. We had our 2nd official ultrasound to get all of the measurements. Marlee looks great, but I was informed that I have a heart-shaped uterus. Which has not been mentioned to me before. It's not formed into 2 different sections, but has a peak/point at the top, so the placenta is in one nook and Marlee's head is in the other. The risks include miscarriages (which my doctor is now not worried about since I'm 5 months/22 weeks along), abnormal pain, preterm labor, and breech positioning resulting in a C-section. Once Marlee gets so big, if she is still head up, she will not be able to turn into head down position b/c of the point. Some women with heart-shaped uteruses have delievered vaginally healthily, and a C-section isn't the end of the world, so this just means that I'll have to be monitored very closely as I and she grows, and towards the end some decisions will have to be made. Hopefully I can pull off a normal birth just fine, but I guess we'll see. Trying to stay positive! As long as Marlee is safe and happy, so am I. Only 4 more months!

She must be breakdancing in there!
Dave got kicked in the ear when his head was on my belly! Marlee is very active everyday for now, she does sleep some, but at least she's not big enough for it to be painful yet. It seems like I must be lucky so far not to have severe leg/calf cramps, nosebleeds, and that I did get some energy back. Trying to keep from laying flat b/c it cuts off oxygen to the baby. I am still eating pretty well, but I am still craving chocolate like mad! I am also lucky to have gotten many maternity clothes that I like AND can wear.
I can't believe that it turns May on Saturday. Time seems to be going quickly, yet it's weird to know that I will still be pregnant for 4 more months. From what other moms are telling me, it will be hard for me to move around a lot in August, especially on the floor working with the kids. So looks like I'll have limited involvement that month, at least we'll be transitioned to the other consultants by then.
It's still not getting above 85 degree outside, so I still don't know what it's gonna be like to be huge, pregnant in the heat of summer. I plan to hang at my friend Kari's pool whenever possible...may even get a kiddie pool to soak in outside here.
Marlee can start to hear my voice, music, and other voices/noises soon. I have started to register for stuff as well.
Mother's Day is coming up soon, and next year I'll be a MOM! So crazy, but awesome!

Feelin' stronger everyday...
About 21 weeks, and it's downhill from here...over 1/2way through this journey with our next one starting this fall. It's been over 2 weeks since I've gotten morning sickness, which is a relief! I have some days where my energy levels are high too, even though some days/afternoons I'm still exhausted. I'm sleeping with a pillow between my knees and one behind my back, on my side as much as possible, keep waking up on my back at times though, and I guess I'm not too big for laying on my back to be really uncomfortable yet. She has been moving around like crazy, my doc said that it was early for me to be feeling her so much so not to expect it everyday, but....last night I could feel her on the outside w/ my hand, so hopefully Dave will be able to feel her soon! I still haven't had any weird cravings, but I have been craving watermelon (haven't gotten any good ones yet b/c they aren't in season), and craving fruit in general, and I've made some smoothies and maybe a milkshake or two. ;)
We go back to the doctor May 4th for another ultrasound to hopefully wrap up all of the measurements of the baby.
I've gotten 2 more boxes of maternity clothes from a neighbor's friend. There were some things in there that will work for me. Very cool that I haven't really had to buy any maternity clothing yet, but definitely already needing to wear it. It does feel good, b/c most people are telling me that I look good for being 5 months along and barely look pregnant. My hips, butt, and thighs are definitely bigger (they were big to start with), but my lower belly is where I'm poking out the most. My uterus is up to my belly button and Marlee is the size of a cantaloupe.
We are officially taking a "babymoon" in June with Jonathan (brother-in-law) and April (his wife) to the beach. We are excited b/c we've never taken a vacay w/ just them.
It also looks like both showers (Centre and Nashville) may be in August, cutting it close, but that will give us plenty of time to get the house ready. Can't believe our house is going to be babyland soon. Dave has finished updating the upstairs bathrooms (they look great!) and next we'll tile the laundry room/bathroom. But in the meantime we need to plant our garden. So excited for fresh fruit and veggies this summer!

IT'S OFFICIALLY A GIRL!!!!!
So...we've had the feeling the whole time, and now it's confirmed...and her name will be Marlee Jessamine. We are so excited! We had our ultrasound on the 13th at our doctor's office. The tech said she was super active and not very cooperative. She was facing down until the tech almost gave up, then she finally turned over and we got to see her profile. Cute little face! They want to do another ultrasound in 3 weeks because they couldn't get good measurements of all the vital parts, including one of her arms/hands. Pretty sure we saw it before, so not worried, they just want it documented.
My doc tells me that I can sleep on either side, that the left side being the best one is a myth. That will make it a little easier, but I keep waking up on my back! Which the back is not okay to sleep on, or even lay on from now on now that I'm 20 weeks.
Padgett said that we could have a lot of Natalie's things. Which is awesome b/c it'll save us money and be perfect b/c Natalie was born last September, so she'll be grown out of her stuff by this September!
We hope to have a yard sale soon & then we can get started on the baby girl's room!
Dave is in Florida this long weekend, jealous, but I'm glad to get some girl time in this weekend. I may go to the Baby Fair at Baptist Hospital on Saturday, it's free!
We'll be signing up for childbirth classes soon...probably do the ones in July.

Spring has sprung!
We are having beautiful weather in the 70s with lots of sun! The band is playing in Lexington, KY this weekend. I have been doing a little spring cleaning...cleaning out closets and drawers & getting stuff together for a yard sale. I changed out my winter stuff for maternity clothes. I was able to toss some things and we'll have a good bit to sale as well. Once we get all that stuff gone, we can start on the baby's room! Not sure what colors we are using yet, but I definitely want neutral colors, and we're using my old crib, our used rocking chair and ottoman, and Dave wants to build the dresser/changing table. Can't wait to start on it!
We have officially started growing our garden. We've planted more than we did last year, hopefully it will all hang on. It should go in the ground next month. Can't wait for fresh summer veggies!
I found a used prenatal workout DVD yesterday that I'm gonna try today. It has dancing, yoga, stretching, pre-labor prep, etc. Our book club for this month is Julia's Chocolates, so I've started that as well.
Can't believe we are over halfway through the pregnancy and think that it is a girl! We are looking forward to our appointment on Tuesday!

It's a GIRL, but it'll be official next week!
18 weeks along, that means halfway!!!! Dave's aunt Gaye, who works at the hospital in Ft. Payne, did us a favor to arrange an ultrasound last Friday. It definitely looks like a girl, but I've heard so many stories of people being told it was a girl all along and then turning out to be a boy, so I want to find out for sure. Her name will be Marlee Jessamine. We are so excited!
We had a relaxing Easter weekend...finding out the sex, cleaning up and painting at the lake cabin & gazebo (of course I was mainly watching/supervising/reading since I couldn't paint), going night fishing (and I caught a big Crappie!), eating good food with family and seeing some friends. Dave's parents also let us drive Larry's old truck back, he got a new/used one and didn't want to sell his, so Dave gets to use it.
We are so lucky and blessed to have the awesome families that we have! Very happy and excited!

4 months and we'll know the sex soon!
Well, we are 16 weeks along and I haven't been sick in over a week. Starting to feel some better, some days I'm super productive, but some days I'm still exhausted! The sun coming out with some warmer days has helped a lot! Still not sleeping great, but definitely gonna start surrounding myself with lots of pillows! Not sure exactly how much I weigh, our scale reads the same weight as my last doctor's appt, so not sure if I've gained much weight since, but I definitely feel like it. I'm sticking out far in the tummy, comfy clothes are a must.
I am getting more and more excited about what's to come, but still not sure what "Our Plan" is going to be after the baby comes. We are so fortunate to have very loving and helpful parents ourselves. We should find out next month what we are having! Our doc appt is April 13th, but we may find out Easter weekend in Ft. Payne, because Dave's aunt can do ultrasounds and we might try a 4D picture, which will probably reveal what it is! We'll see...
I met a mom of a 7 month old who is with a musician and she was a super positive person. She kept going on and on about how small I still was at 4 months...I beg to differ. She had a natural birth and said it was not bad at all. That is really my next big decision...natural or epidural. From what I've heard, I need to be prepared for both, because anything can happen, no matter your birth plan. I'm leaning towards epidural, but I'm still researching.
Got all my work done, so gonna go relax and read...or nap.
:)

Clothes are getting tight, and I'm still getting sick
I'm 15 weeks pregnant...next week we'll be 4 months! Can't believe it, it feels like it's going quickly! I definitely have a bump and had to break out the maternity clothes that friends have let me borrow. I'm gonna need some more and can't wait for the actual transition of the weather. It's still been chilly and mostly cloudy around here. I'm ready for 70 and sunny!!!!!
I got sick away from home the first time this past weekend in B'ham at the hotel we were staying in for Jon and April's wedding. Both mornings I got sick, maybe from getting too hungry again...ugh...done w/ getting sick! They did have free breakfast and free drinks and food in the evenings as well, which was cool. The wedding was during the service at a quaint church in Wilsonville on Sunday morning, complete with wedding bells. My family came and we got to see some friends too. It was beautiful and happy!
I'm not sure how much I weigh now. Still having to pee all the time and now my gums are swollen (due to horomones). I desparately want to sleep longer than 2 hours at a time. This morning I got sick and had a slight fever, so I went back to sleep, which helped me feel better for a while, but now it's 5:45pm and I feel like I could fall asleep again. Apparently the "honeymoon" 2nd trimester feel good time doesn't necessarily start until around 16 weeks or so (according to some of my friends who have gone before). I'm trying my best to do my Kegel exercises (doc recommended 3 sets of 10, thank goodness I asked, b/c I read 10 sets of 20!). I am also trying to sleep on my left side like I'm told, but I wake up on my back frequently, and I'm trying a pillow between my knees. My chest and face are broken out some, but not horribly. I desparately need a hair cut, but it's sure shiny and my nails are growing great!
I can't believe we find out what we are having on April 13th...less than a month! I've starting getting some nursery ideas. Definitely shabby chic, vintage, antique decor, and if it's a boy use Norman Rockwell deco along w/ it. We already have an old rocker to use and an old bassinet, along with my baby crib.
There are a lot of people I know having babies this year! Still wish we were closer to family, but I know it will all work out. Dave's still working on getting the house ready, our bathroom is almost complete. And the band is officially recording their next album. Exciting times!

Hearing the heartbeat was awesome!
We had a quick doctor's visit to just hear the heartbeat (which was awesome) and to make our ultrasound appointment for April 13th to find out what we are having...boy or girl!
So exciting! I haven't been feeling very sick lately; however, I did have to run away from the meat section at the grocery store the other day, but hopefully it's passing soon. I have been really, really tired almost every day lately. Every night I wake up 2-4 times through the night and almost an hour before my alarm every day! Sometimes it's really hard to get back to sleep and get comfortable again. I haven't really taken advantage of taking any naps lately, but I may need to.
Spring Break is coming for some of the kids I work with, but overall my hours will be increasing, so that's good.

2nd trimester and spring is coming...
14 weeks and we go back to the doctor on Tuesday...supposed to hear the heartbeat! I'm still having moments of sickness, but hopefully it's fading away. I officially have a little bump that needs more room in clothes, but not showing that much. We are taking weekly belly pics to make a flip book when it's all over. I can't believe that we are almost 4 months pregnant and find out next month if it's a girl or boy! Dave has been working hard getting our house ready and situated. He repainted our bathroom, replaced shower doors for shower curtain, updated shower tile, and new light fixture. Next to complete the guest bathroom w/ new paint, then tile the laundry room/bathroom, then on the baby's room, plus a few other spiff ups here and there. Most predictions of what we're having are GIRL, but we'll see. I've been trying to get all my fluids, staying full, stretching, doing kegel exercises, sleeping when I can (can't get more than 3-4hrs at a time!), reading advice, all while keeping up with work, home stuff, and being a supportive wife to my wonderfully talented musician husband. It's March and we have some warmer weather creeping our way...bring on Spring! I'm looking forward to summer dresses and flip flops. :) Guess we will start looking for childbirthing classes soon. Will let you know how Tuesday's appointment goes!

13 Weeks, Bring on the 2nd Trimester
Sorry I haven't updated in a while...I haven't made time with all the busy-ness and tiredness. We have been to the doctor twice in the last 3 weeks because of bleeding, but the doctor says everything looks okay. Our last appointment was last Tuesday after heavy bleeding for a little over 24 hours. The bleeding started right after sex, so we weren't too alarmed this time and figured that's what caused it. The doctor said there was some bruising near the placenta, so no sex or exercise for me until our next appt on March 9th.
I have still had some nausa and fatigue, some sickness like a cold as well. I definitely am starting to show a little, but I know that I have probably gained some unneccesary weight also, because I'm eating a good bit, still hard to stay full all of the time, but I'm still craving sweets like chocolate very often.
My friend Leah who had a baby last year let me borrow several shirts and pants that I can start wearing now and where until I get a good bit bigger, she lent me 2 baby books as well that have some good information. Our baby is the size of a peach, almost 3 inches and almost 1 ounce. Yesterday Allison (Mackey) Smith had her baby boy, 6lbs, 13oz and healthy w/ red hair. I also found out today that Sabrina, who I was in my graduate school class, is also pregnant. So me, her, and Heather (who was also in our class) are all due w/in weeks of each other. That's pretty cool, but none of us get to go to ABAI in TX this year because we all need to save money.
For our next book club meeting we are reading "The Help", I borrowed Julie's copy.
I took our Husky to the dog park today since it was sunny and not too cold...can't wait for Spring. Right now I have a really stopped up nose, that runs off and on, with an off and on headache as well. Not sure if it's a cold, allergies, or what, but hopefully it will go away soon!
I promise to update more often, so that I can capture these very unique moments in my life. Can't believe I have to wait 6 more months to meet our little one! At least the 2nd trimester is supposed to be the best!

Just about 10 weeks and ready for sunshine and warmth
This weekend I'll be 10 weeks pregnant! I am still having some cramping and uncomfortableness that I've had for the last few days. I think the colored stuff I've been seeing when I use the bathroom is just discharge, hopefully nothing scarier, but will know more on Tuesday at appointment. I've definitely been emotional at times, but I was an emotional person to start with. I can't believe I'm going to be somebody's momma this year...I can't wait, but it's so terrifying at the same time! ;) Anxious about seeing how it's all gonna play out this fall. I really wish I could stay home with the baby for a while. I definitely shouldn't have watched "Steel Magnolias" tonight....cried for sure.
Ready for warmer weather so that I can take lots of walks outside. I need to be exercising more, but I'm really tired and always couped up in the house b/c it's cold and/or rainy all the time. Trying to do stretching and yoga some inside. Maybe it will be warmer in a couple of months...maybe by April when we find out if it's a boy or girl!
Dave is with the band in Georgia for a show tonight, should be back late tomorrow. I'm getting to go to a fundraiser pancake breakfast with a friend in the morning. Excited about friend time! Candles lit and gonna relax now.

Officially a 27 year old pregnant wife of a musician I am...
My b'day was Feb. 1st and I turned 27. I handled it well this year, I guess because we are trying to fulfill a dream/goal (having kids), but last year I didn't handle 26 so well. This year it snowed a few days before my birthday, and schools were closed and roads were hazardous on my b'day, so I got to hang at home with my hubby. He cooked for me and we watched a movie. It was very relaxing, which was so nice!
I got a little stressed today because of cramping and spotting, which happens to some people with no alarm, but I can't wait for our appt next week so that we know what's going on for sure. I really hope it's nothing serious. The doc says that many women call around weeks 7 to 10 about this issue, so it sounds common. We'll see....happy thoughts!
One of our very favorite TV shows "LOST" came back on last night, it's the last season :(, but it's so good :). We own the 1st season, and hope to own all 6 one day on dvd.
The groundhog saw his shadow yesterday, so that means 6 more weeks of winter...I think we expect that around here the ways things have been going = COLD!
I'm going to go get warm...can't wait for Spring!

Very aware of what's going in...9 weeks pregnant
I've been reading...books, on the internet, etc., and there's A LOT to remember to do and not do when you're pregnant. I know it will all be worth it in the end to have a happy, healthy baby, but I'm trying to keep my stress level low in the process. I'm not supposed to eat cold cut sandwiches, sushi, more than 1 serving of tuna/salmon a week, soft cheeses, OR drink alcohol or caffeine. I can totally deal without drinking alcohol or coffee, but doing w/o hot chocolate or eating chocolate is gonna be hard. Since the caffeine level is so low in hot chocolate and chocolate candy, I'm allowing this indulgence from time to time. :) Oh, I also have to consume close to 100 oz of water a day.
I've also had some "morning" sickness that doesn't occur everyday or all day, but I think it definitely happens more when I let myself get too hungry. I'm trying to get used to eating/grazing all day long, and do it as healthily as possible. Drinking ginger ale and peppermint tea has helped. But I just remembered that herbal teas are on the DO NOT consume list as well...man.
I haven't had any "weird" cravings, it's just what I do crave...I REALLY CRAVE! So if something sounds yummy to me, I have to have it! Cravings so far (separate/not mixed): peanut butter, chocolate shake, pickles, milk, and a Subway sandwich (but don't worry b/c I heated until steaming, which makes it safe).
I've been really tired some days, which makes it harder to be as active as I need to be. Once it quits snowing and warms up, walking outside will be easier, but for now I'm trying to stretch daily and do some strengthening exercises. I'm really going to want a pool to wade in come summer when I'm huge!
So, right now my goals are to continue eating and drinking well and frequent, exercise when I can, get ahold of my emotions/stress as much as possible, and make goals and plans to deal with our finances/living situation. We go back to the doctor Feb. 9th.

So couldn't eat like a bird to lose holiday pounds because on returning home from the holiday vacation I discovered I was pregnant!
So, I got excited when I first started this blog, but never followed through. Maybe I felt as though I didn't have much to say, but I do now for sure! This week I am 2 months pregnant. I have been living in Nashville, TN since August 2006. David, my husband has been here for 10 years this year. We bought our first house in Dec. 2006 and are still living in it today. We still have our husky Nenana. My due date is Sept. 5th, so we've got lots of planning to do. We are very excited, but know that we will have to make lots of changes to our lives. Some may be hard, but it will all be worth it!
I currently still work with the same private consulting company that serves families with autism that I hired on with when I moved here 3 1/2 years ago. Dave got laid of from an electrical contracting company Feb. 2009, almost 1 year ago, and has been a full time musician ever since. It is hard being in the arts. He is SUPER talented and deserves to make a living singing and playing music. Delilah Why is the name of the band he's put together, and they've been recording and playing for over 3 years. However, he is so talented that he can play all of the instruments...not all at once of course. Check it out at www.delilahwhy.com .
I'll be putting my everyday worries, moments, and thoughts about the pregnancy and life when I can on this blog.
